COMMON QUESTIONS

Useful answers,
before we begin.

Building-energy requirements can sound complicated. These are the questions clients ask most often.

Ask about your project
01Which service do I need?+

For a house, flat, residential conversion or relevant extension, start with SAP or domestic EPC support. A non-domestic building normally requires SBEM or a commercial EPC. Planning submissions may require an Energy Statement. If unsure, describe the building and intended outcome in the quote form.

02What is the difference between SAP and SBEM?+

SAP assesses dwellings. SBEM assesses most non-domestic buildings such as offices, shops, schools and warehouses. A mixed-use development can require both.

03What is the difference between SAP and an EPC?+

SAP is the calculation methodology used to assess a dwelling's predicted energy performance. For a newly completed dwelling, the final as-built SAP assessment is used to produce its EPC.

04When should EnergyWise become involved?+

As early as practical. Early assessment leaves more design options available and reduces the risk of expensive specification changes close to completion.

05What information should I send?+

Start with the address, building type, project stage, drawings, construction build-ups, heating, hot-water and ventilation information, planning requirements and target date. We will identify anything else required.

06Can several services be combined?+

Yes. SAP, overheating, water and fabric calculations often share drawings and specifications. SBEM, commercial EPC and Energy Statement work can also overlap. A combined scope can keep assumptions coordinated.

07Can you help if a design is not initially compliant?+

Yes. We review the model, identify the most effective areas to change and explain the options and trade-offs clearly.

08What happens if the design changes?+

Tell us as soon as possible. We will confirm whether the model or report needs updating and what revised information is required.

09Do you work with homeowners as well as professionals?+

Yes. EnergyWise supports homeowners, landlords, architects, developers, contractors and commercial property teams throughout the UK.

10Can you take over an existing assessment?+

Usually. Send the existing files, reports, drawings and current specification. We will review what can be reused and confirm the quickest appropriate route forward.
